Illnesses are unplanned and happen every day! What would you do to continue to support your family if you were unable to work due to an illness?

Loss of Income “Illness” Coverage, is only available as a rider in conjunction with Loss of Income Injury Coverage, and is intended to provide an income when you can't work due to an illness. After 30 days of disability, premiums will be waived.

CRITICAL ILLNESS

Suffering a critical illness is more common than you think, but being approved for Critical Illness insurance can sometimes be difficult. It often depends on your health, or the history of your family's health.

Benefits amounts up to $125,0000 available:

Tier 1 (Guaranteed Issue): Available in units of $5,000 up to $25,000, or choose a $50,000 or $75,000 benefit amount.

Tier 2 (Simplified Qualification): Additional $25,000 or $50,000 coverage available, for a combined maximum of up to $125,000. Only available if EDGE Tier 1 maximum benefit amount is selected or in-force, and qualifying questions are satisfied.

HEALTH & DENTAL

Having your own medical plan is a smart way to fill the gap between those medical expenses that occur, but are not covered by a government health plan.

Our Guaranteed Issue plans are 100% customizable so you only pay for the coverage you want. EDGE Health & Dental plans provide flexible, affordable coverage for prescription drugs, paramedical services, emergency medical travel insurance, vision care, and routine dental care. Choose basic Health & Dental, or select from our optional upgrades to increase the types of covered expenses and amount reimbursed. When other EDGE coverage is purchased in addition to the Health & Dental Plan, a discount is automatically applied.

Acceptance is guaranteed for Canadians under age 70 who have provincial medical coverage. Any expenses normally covered under Provincial Health Insurance plans are not covered. Health coverage starts the 1st of the month following approval. Dental benefits are eligible after a 1 month waiting period following your coverage effective date. This Dental waiting period does not apply to plans under a Multi-Life billing arrangement.

All Health and Dental plans renew annually, October 1st. Rates are age-banded and will increase in accordance with age-bands during the lifetime of the policy. Rates may be adjusted for the entire group once a year, each October.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Québec residents only: To be eligible for prescription drug coverage under this benefit plan, residents of Québec are required to enroll in the public drug plan, RAMQ (Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec). As a resident of Quebec, you must submit all your drug claims to RAMQ first. The unpaid balances (including co-payments and deductibles) for drugs eligible for coverage under RAMQ, as well as claims for drugs not covered by RAMQ, may then be submitted to GSC for consideration. In the case of drugs requiring special authorization, claims may be submitted to GSC for consideration according to the terms of the benefit plan described in this booklet, only when the RAMQ criteria has been met.

Note: Except where otherwise indicated, coverage maximums are based on a Benefit Year. Benefit Year means the consecutive 12 month period following the effective date of coverage and each 12 month period thereafter. All maximums shown are per covered person.

Important Premium Information

Please note that all Edge Benefits plans renew annually based on the pooled experience of all policyholders, as well as many other market factors impacting premiums. These adjustments are generally effective on the 1st of October. In addition, some of our plan premiums increase automatically at certain ages.

 
Please note: Benefits do not include smoking cessation products, medication for the treatment of obesity, erectile dysfunction or fertility. Serums and vitamins are also ineligible unless injected and medically necessary.

Illnesses are unplanned and happen every day! What would you do to continue to support your family if you were unable to work due to an illness?

Loss of Income “Illness” Coverage, is only available as a rider in conjunction with Loss of Income Injury Coverage, and is intended to provide an income when you can't work due to an illness. After 30 days of disability, premiums will be waived.

PERMANENT TOTAL DISABILITY

$300,000 lump sum tax free benefit paid to the insured after 24 continuous months of Total Disability due to injury, under the Loss of Income Policy with a 2 year benefit period. 

If, after twenty-four (24) continuous months of Total Disability due to injury, the Insured Person continues to be Totally Disabled and is receiving Total Disability benefits under the EDGE Policy, and is unable to perform two (2) of the six (6) Activities of Daily Living, the Insurer will pay the Permanent Total Disability amount under this Policy, but not to exceed the maximum amount shown on the Schedule of Benefits.

CRITICAL ILLNESS

Suffering a critical illness is more common than you think, but being approved for Critical Illness insurance can sometimes be difficult. It often depends on your health, or the history of your family's health.

Benefits amounts up to $125,0000 available:

Tier 1 (Guaranteed Issue): Available in units of $5,000 up to $25,000, or choose a $50,000 or $75,000 benefit amount.

Tier 2 (Simplified Qualification): Additional $25,000 or $50,000 coverage available, for a combined maximum of up to $125,000. Only available if EDGE Tier 1 maximum benefit amount is selected or in-force, and qualifying questions are satisfied.

HEALTH & DENTAL

Having your own medical plan is a smart way to fill the gap between those medical expenses that occur, but are not covered by a government health plan.

Our Guaranteed Issue plans are 100% customizable so you only pay for the coverage you want. EDGE Health & Dental plans provide flexible, affordable coverage for prescription drugs, paramedical services, emergency medical travel insurance, vision care, and routine dental care. Choose basic Health & Dental, or select from our optional upgrades to increase the types of covered expenses and amount reimbursed. When other EDGE coverage is purchased in addition to the Health & Dental Plan, a discount is automatically applied.

Acceptance is guaranteed for Canadians under age 70 who have provincial medical coverage. Any expenses normally covered under Provincial Health Insurance plans are not covered. Health coverage starts the 1st of the month following approval. Dental benefits are eligible after a 1 month waiting period following your coverage effective date. This Dental waiting period does not apply to plans under a Multi-Life billing arrangement.

All Health and Dental plans renew annually, October 1st. Rates are age-banded and will increase in accordance with age-bands during the lifetime of the policy. Rates may be adjusted for the entire group once a year, each October.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Québec residents only: To be eligible for prescription drug coverage under this benefit plan, residents of Québec are required to enroll in the public drug plan, RAMQ (Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec). As a resident of Quebec, you must submit all your drug claims to RAMQ first. The unpaid balances (including co-payments and deductibles) for drugs eligible for coverage under RAMQ, as well as claims for drugs not covered by RAMQ, may then be submitted to GSC for consideration. In the case of drugs requiring special authorization, claims may be submitted to GSC for consideration according to the terms of the benefit plan described in this booklet, only when the RAMQ criteria has been met.

This is a brief overview of the Benefits, providing some key definitions, exclusions and limitations only. A complete policy booklet will be issued once coverage is purchased, and we suggest you review for details on all policy provisions when received.
 
Green Shield Canada Insurance reserves the right to perform a claim audit from time to time to verify the accuracy of the medical information provided. All Health & Dental clients are able to submit claims online.
Note: Except where otherwise indicated, coverage maximums are based on a Benefit Year. Benefit Year means the consecutive 12 month period following the effective date of coverage and each 12 month period thereafter. All maximums shown are per covered person.

Important Premium Information

Please note that all Edge Benefits plans renew annually based on the pooled experience of all policyholders, as well as many other market factors impacting premiums. These adjustments are generally effective on the 1st of October. In addition, some of our plan premiums increase automatically at certain ages.

 
Please note: Benefits do not include smoking cessation products, medication for the treatment of obesity, erectile dysfunction or fertility. Serums and vitamins are also ineligible unless injected and medically necessary.

  • To create a Summary Presentation: Select “View and Print” – Use to display a formalized summary quotation. A formal printable Quotation Summary will be prepared for you in .pdf format to view/save/print/etc.
  • To keep this quote to  continue later: Select “Save and Exit” – Use when you do not want to present it to the client now, but will want to access it later. A pop up box will appear for you to name the quote (usually the client name) for future reference. You can retrieve it later at any time.
  • To create multiple quotes with the same products: Select “Save and Create a Duplicate Quote”– For use where multiple people will be purchasing the same products. It will save your quote and open a new quote with the same products so you don’t have to repeat the information in multi-life situations.

All Completed Quotations will be automatically saved in your profile and can be accessed at any time by clicking “My Quotes / Electronic Applications” in the blue bar.

  • To submit an Application: Select “Continue to Electronic Application” – For use to continue to complete an application for electronic submission to EDGE. You will have the option of finalizing the application with the client present, or not present at the time of completion.
    • If the client is present, the application will automatically be sent to EDGE upon completion.
    • If the client is not present, the application will be “pending” on your list and the client will be emailed a confirmation request, so please ensure the email address is valid and the client knows this will be sent to them. Once confirmed, the status will change to “submitted” and the application will automatically sent to the EDGE.

**All Submitted Applications will be automatically saved in your profile and can be accessed at any time by clicking “My Quotes/Electronic Applications” in the blue bar.

  2. With the client absent at the time of completion.

If the client is present, the application will automatically be sent to EDGE upon completion.

If the client is absent, we recommend you:

  • ensure the email address is correct,
  • ensure the client knows we will be sending him/her an email, and
  • check the status of the application regularly to ensure that the client completed and acepted the application within 24-48 hours

As mentioned above, at the end of the electronic submission process the applicant must electronically sign and accept the application via email with the following process:

  • As indicated above, the client will be emailed a confirmation request which includes an electronic signature declaration, which they must activate within 24-48 hours.
  • The application status will be “pending” on your “My Quote / Electronic Application” list until the client reviews and accepts the application.
  • Once confirmed, the application will be automatically sent to the EDGE.
  • The status will change to “submitted” on your “My Quote / Electronic Application” list.
  • If the confirmation is not received within 24-48 hours, the application will be closed and the application status will change to “Not Proceeded With”.
