Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance

Insured by Chubb Life Insurance Company of Canada

Accidents are the leading cause of death and disabilities for working Canadians. The immediate impact of such an event is devastating, and the financial effects can be long lasting. With accidental death and dismemberment coverage, you and your family will be protected when an unexpected and life-changing event occurs.

Why you need accidental death and dismemberment coverage

Instances of accidental death and dismemberment in Canada are more common than you may think. From work-related accidents to motor vehicle crashes, the risk of dying or becoming permanently disabled is highest during your working years, when you’re most active.

Every hour, 427 Canadians suffer a preventable injury as a result of an accidental fall, motor vehicle crash, fire, poisoning, drowning or other activities.1

Having AD&D coverage means that you and your family will have a financial cushion in the event you pass away or become disabled, and is a great lump sum coverage to complement your income replacement benefits. If you’re the primary earner for the household, this insurance provides you the peace of mind that if the worst occurs, your family will have the finances available to cover both immediate and long-term expenses.

Accidents are...
The leading cause of death for Canadians aged 1 to 34
The second leading cause for those aged 35 to 44
And the third cause of death for people aged 45 to 642

How AD&D insurance works with The Edge Benefits

The Edge Benefits’ Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage is an affordable way to receive a tax-free* lump-sum payment in the event of an accidental death or life-altering injury.

Our accidental death and dismemberment insurance provides up to a $300,000 emergency benefit to the insured or their surviving family. Loss of use benefits include accidents that result in paraplegia, hemiplegia or quadriplegia.

A percentage of the benefit is paid for other losses listed in the policy. For more information on covered losses and policy restrictions, contact an EDGE advisor today.

Only 16% of Canadians have life insurance that would cover their remaining mortgage payments or other debts if they were to pass away.

With a tax-free lump-sum payment, you and your family will receive the financial protection needed during an emotionally taxing time. If you, or your insured spouse or children, become permanently disabled, these funds can be used to cover personal debt and rehabilitation expenses, modify your home, spend quality time with family or hire in-home care. In the event of the insured’s death, their family can utilize these funds to pay off their mortgage, medical bills or take time off work.

Those aged 18-64 are eligible for guaranteed-issue accidental death and dismemberment coverage to age 70 with The EDGE. Two unique plans are available and insured by our partner, Chubb Life Insurance Company of Canada: Single Coverage and Family Coverage.

*Based on current CRA guidelines.

Guaranteed-issue Single Plan

Receive 24/7 AD&D coverage on or off the job, anywhere in the world. Additional benefits under our AD&D plan also include daycare, education, home alteration, vehicle modification, and a benefit top-up in the event of a motor vehicle accident and the insured was wearing a seatbelt at the time of injury.

If you’re also insured by EDGE income replacement insurance, the Accidental Medical Reimbursement Benefit from your AD&D policy would provide up to $100,000 reimbursement after the $10,000 maximum Accident Medical Treatment Benefit included in your income replacement policy has been exhausted.

Guaranteed-issue Family Plan

With family coverage, the principal insured is covered at 100%, the spouse is covered for 50% of the benefit amount and dependent children receive 15%.

Coverage amounts are available for both plans starting at $50,000 up to $300,000.
