The EDGE is celebrating 30 years in business, and is a proud member of The Co-operators Group Limited.
Our simplified approach to offering complex living benefit solutions to the Canadian consumer has been revolutionary in the insurance industry. We provide the self-employed and small business owner with insurance solutions specifically designed to meet their needs.
Located just north of Toronto in Newmarket, Ontario, we currently have 80 Employees, and over 45,000 policyholders.
Approximately 14,000 licensed insurance advisors across Canada select the EDGE products when offering Living Benefit Solutions that meet their clients' needs.
We've paid out over $100 million in benefit claims in the last 10 years.
My name is Neil Paton, and as the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Edge Benefits, it's my pleasure to welcome you to The Edge Benefits.
As Canada's Lifestyle Protection Company, we look forward to being of service to you.
The EDGE™ was established in 1986 to design, distribute, and administer a unique suite of lifestyle protection products from leading Canadian Insurers, specifically for those of you without a comprehensive benefit plan through your employer; recently becoming members of the Co-operators Group Limited.
Our Mission is to Safeguard the Lifestyle of our Customers ~ Simply.
We're a national, bilingual Canadian company, operating coast to coast with our head office in Newmarket, Ontario. We currently provide employment to over 80 people, including a team of Sales Consultants supporting all provinces and territories across Canada. We are also proud supporters of our Community, through active involvement and sponsorship of numerous important local causes.
We're extremely proud of our longstanding relationship with several Insurers, who are each specialists in their respective fields, and help us to build products that have been specifically designed around the needs of our customers; under one EDGE Plan. They include Co-operators for all of our disability products, Green Shield Canada for our Health and Dental products, Allianz Global Assistance for our Out of Country Travel Medical Emergency Coverage, and CHUBB Life for our special risk products such as Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Critical Illness, Final Expense and Fracture Accident coverage.
We're honoured to have been selected by many of Canada's leading insurance companies to provide our products to their own Advisors and clients. A few examples include Sun Life Financial, Co-operators Insurance Company, and Primerica Financial Services.
We currently have over 60,000 policies in force across Canada, and are pleased that over the last four years alone, we have paid out over $100 million dollars in benefits to our policyholders.
We are also very proud of the relationships that we have with over 15,000 licensed Advisors who day in and day out, recommend our products to their clients.
Although we've accomplished a lot over the years, a great deal of work remains to be done to increase the awareness of what powers our lifestyle, and why it is so critical to protect it.
Regrettably, with unprecedented levels of debt in Canadian households, ever increasing risks associated with injuries and illnesses, and a growing population without benefits from an employer, many remain extremely exposed.
It's also an unfortunate fact that many are under the false impression that our government programs will adequately support them. I'd encourage you to visit our site to request information about the actual benefits, and the limitations associated with these benefits, including Canada Pension Plan, Employment Insurance, and Workers Compensation.
We've also developed some new tools that help you answer the important questions including: what is my lifestyle, what's my exposure, what coverage is right for me, how much do I need, how much does it cost, and how do I qualify.
Our hope is that through our site, and through the good work that is being done by our trusted Advisors in the marketplace, we will continue to provide more and more Canadians with the information they need to better understand just what makes lifestyles possible, and why protecting them is such a critical step on the road to financial security.

Enjoy your visit, and please let us know if there is any way that we can be of help.
The Edge Benefits,
Neil A. Paton, CLU, CHS, CPCA
President and Chief Executive Officer.
We incorporated in 1985 as an Insurance Agency (Prince and Associates) selling Life insurance, Disability and Investments.
By 1989 we gravitated to developing a simplified disability product offering.
In 1993 we introduced a new disability concept into the Canadian Insurance marketplace by providing injury disability coverage separately from Illness, allowing the injury coverage to be offered without medical underwriting. Illness could then be added with a simplified underwriting process.
In 1996 we sold our first EDGE Plan. We recognized that self-employed individuals had a lifestyle funded with an income way above their "earned Income" so we introduced benefits based on "Gross Revenue".
Since that time, The EDGE has grown to become the largest independent distributor of living benefits in Canada, and in 2015 became a proud member of the Co-operators group of companies.
The EDGE disability plan has been upgraded year over year with a wide range of features and enhancements, continuing to make us a leader in the disability marketplace.
We have expanded our product portfolio to provide all living benefits that help safeguard the lifestyles of our customers.
Our claims customer care unit has expanded to serve our customers when they need us most - at claim time!

The Leadership Team
Why I joined the team: The Edge Benefits was a fast growing company with a sound track record over 26 years, with a very exciting focus and vision for the future. I have a passion for income replacement insurance, an appreciation of the value of distribution, and a perspective to help take the company to another level.
Responsibilities: As President and CEO of The Edge Benefits, I consider my primary objectives to be to bring to life our Mission, Vision and Values every day, and in so doing create an outstanding, engaging environment for our employees to enjoy, and a differentiated value proposition in the relationships we enjoy with all of our stakeholders including our clients, our advisors, our distributors, our national account partners and our insurers. I want to make a real difference in the lives of those in the communities in which we conduct our businesses, to carry on the legacy of leadership in Safeguarding the Lifestyles of Canadians, and to capitalize on the extensive opportunities we have to profitably grow our business.
Why I joined the team: It was an opportunity to be a part of a company that was radically changing how Living Benefits was being sold in Canada.
Responsibilities: As leader of Business Development, my primary responsibilities are to develop new revenue growth, to manage and support the growing number of important National Accounts and Distributor relationships, to strengthen and expand relationships with our insurers, and to develop and deliver on strategies associated with our Distribution Team.
Why I joined the team: I joined the EDGE to be part of a growing local company in the insurance industry, where I could utilize and share my knowledge and expertise, and make a difference to the Company, Employees, and Clients.
Responsibilities: As the leader of Operations, I strive to ensure the EDGE's Vision, Mission, Values and strategy are supported by managing prioritization, effective resource alignment, decision ownership, measurement, and accountability throughout the Department. I am involved in Business Planning and Budgeting, Facility Management, Experience and Profitability Reporting, and am an active member of the Executive Management Group reporting to the President and Board of Directors. My Departmental responsibilities include Advisor and Distributor Contracting and Compliance, New Business, Underwriting, Claims, Customer Service, Website Maintenance & Design, Sales & Marketing, Commissions and Compensation and System(s) Administration.
Why I joined the team: I was eager to join The Edge Benefits because of its innovative approach to lifestyle protection, the enthusiasm of the owner/management team and the opportunity to help shape the future data and accounting processes in an aggressively growing company.
Responsibilities: As the leader of the Finance area, I am responsible for the overall financial processes and structure of the company. In this capacity, on top of the regular day to day accounting activities, our area builds and provides relevant financial information to aid the company with its strategic planning, ensures the accuracy of data produced by all systems, creates reporting programs to effectively produce financial information for a variety of internal and external users and leads the annual forecasting and budgeting initiatives.
Why I joined the team: I loved the product and concept with "Living Benefits". I was given the challenge to set up the EDGE in Western Canada. Had a lot of great people to work with and pioneer the west.
Responsibilities: As leader of the Distribution, I work out of Calgary, but travel across the country as required, spending a great deal of time in the field with our Distribution Team in the various provinces, and in Head Office in Newmarket. I am responsible for obtaining profitable results through the sales team by developing the team through motivation, counseling, skills development and product knowledge development; as well as the development of Standard Practices that clearly articulate the unique value proposition associated with our company.
Why I joined the team: After two years of building a relationship here as a 3rd party Senior IT Consultant, the opportunity to become a part of this phenomenal organization couldn't be missed.
Responsibilities: Managing, maintaining and deploying the desktop/server infrastructure and software systems for the company.
Why I joined the team: I had made some career changes over a couple of years and felt it was time to return to the corporate environment. My first impression of the EDGE 13 years ago was the "caring" atmosphere. I have had the opportunity to not only see the company grow but actually be part of it. They have continued to maintain their values and I am glad to be a part of the team!
Responsibilities: As the Executive Assistant I have the unique opportunity to have an array of responsibilities. My position allows me to provide support to and work directly with the President and CEO. Our Annual Conference and Charity Golf Tournament are a couple of projects I manage and guarantee to provide the "WOW" factor. I am pleased to be working with The Edge Benefits Health and Safety and Social Committees to ensure we maintain a positive safe work environment.
